The Turning Point
I remember the evening clearly. It was a typical Tuesday, and I was exhausted from a long day at the office. I pushed the door open, ready to unwind, only to find my son slumped on the couch, his face bathed in the silent, blue light of his iPad.
My guilt over my own busy schedule morphed into anger. Worried about his health and detachment, I snatched the device and yelled: "That's enough! No more screens for a week!"
He didn't scream or fight. He simply walked over, wrapped his small arms around my waist, and looked up at me with heartbreaking honesty.
"Mom, I want to play with you, but you're always busy. The iPad is the only thing that stays with me."
In that moment, everything froze. I realized my mistake was monumental. I was blaming the screen for a void I had created. He didn't need a ban; he needed a reason to look up, and a parent committed to showing up.
